2011: New Year, New Plans, New Life

So, the idea of New Years is to correct the things we didnt like about ourselves in the past year right? To make new goals, plans for the future. I will be honest, I dont think that I have made New Years Resolutions in several years. I just got so tired of letting myself down. This year though, for me, my kids and my family I decided its time for a change. A HUGE change. The past month or so I have felt so down in the dumps, not where I should be, especially with how blessed my life is. Not sure if its the idea of 30 creeping up on me, or just a unbearable need for something more. This year I have made several resolutions, but these are not resolutions that I want to fulfill this year, these are life changes. Things that I want to continually work on every year from here on out. Making my life, my kids and my husbands life, better, more pleasurable, and more fulfilling.

1. To get into my relationship with Christ more. Make my life more all about the cross, because truly that is why we are here. Because of HIS sacrifice. I have started a ladies bible study on Wednesday nights at church, it is a study on Jonah. Honestly, this is the first Women's study I have ever done, so Im pretty excited about it. I want to get into studying the Word more, Im just so bad about where to start, and finding the things that apply to my life and hold my attention. I am currently working in the nursery once a month at church, but Im contemplating what else God might like for me to do. Maybe lead a small group.....of kids of course, I dont think I can handle the big stuff yet. Im not really sure where this will lead me, but I am open to the idea of anything. I want my kids to see a difference in me, I want them to see the LOVE of Christ through me. And I know that there will be days that I will fail, I will prepare myself for those days on the good days.

2.I want to work on my relationship with my husband. I want Austin to see in me a change, I want to not get so irritated at him over the things that dont really matter in the end. I want to LISTEN to him more. Out of the two of us, I have a hard time listening. Especially if Im busy doing something, its easy to tune out. I dont want to do that, its just habit. I want him to know that I listen and I truly care about what is important enough for him to share with me. I also want to help out better around the house, for those of you who know Austin, you now he tends to be a neat freak. I, on the other hand, like things in order, but a little mess, or something out of place doesnt bother me as much, I will get to it, eventually. :) I want it to matter to me more, so it doesnt frustrate him as much, and so he can relax and rest more. I want to treasure ever moment I get with him without the kids. Because truly, there arent many of those.

3. I want to make more time for my kids. Its HARD. Working 8+ hours a day to come home and ignore everything around me to give them the time they need. I find myself saying "Maybe tomorrow night" way too much. My heart breaks everytime I have to say it though. I want to find easy recipes to do during the week, even if its grilled cheese and soup, so that extra 45 minutes I usually spend cooking can be spent playing a game with Tate, or stacking blocks with Dayton. I need to be better about not being on my phone or computer as much. It reflects in my children. Dayton thinks everything is a phone, and Tate is constantly on his ipod if I let him. I want them to know they are what matters most to me, not facebook, text messages or phone calls. I want them to have pleasant memories of their childhood- not mommy not ever making time for them. I want to snuggle with them more, because my years are slowly slipping away that I will have the chance to do this. I need to watch my temper. Which also reflects in my kids. They react to situations that upset them the same way I react to situations with them. I dont want to yell, or mumble under my breath, or even growl (yes growl) at them. I want to sit down and talk about the problem, and find ways to resolve it, without the anger and frustration.

Overall, I want to be a better person. I want to put up all my selfish goals, and focus on the people who mean most to me. And its not just Austin and my kids, I just feel like that is a good starting point. I want my relationships there to be better so that hopefully the things Im getting better at there can flow out into my other family relationships and friendships.
